The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a clarification confirming that the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection drive applies only to eligible voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in preparation for the February 21, 2026 Area Council Elections.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, the electoral body urged citizens in other states not to act on unverified claims about PVC collection in their areas. The clarification underscores that the current exercise is tied specifically to the FCT polls and does not yet extend to states outside the territory.
According to INEC, eligible voters in the FCT can collect their PVCs at designated Registration Areas (wards) from January 22 to January 26, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those unable to pick up their cards during this period may do so afterward at INEC Area Council offices within the FCT.
The commission reiterated that PVC collection schedules for other states have not yet been determined, and that once dates are finalized, they will be officially announced on all INEC platforms. INEC appealed to eligible voters outside the FCT to remain patient and await formal communication.
This move is part of the commission’s broader effort to ensure transparent and orderly voter registration and participation in the upcoming local elections in the FCT.
