Badaru Dismisses ADC Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC

0

Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the claims as false and politically motivated.

The speculation, according to findings by PUNCH Online, appears to be linked to ongoing internal tensions within the Jigawa State chapter of the APC, particularly between Badaru and his successor as governor, Umar Namadi. Party sources say the rift has been fuelled by allegations that loyalists of the former governor have been marginalised in both government and party affairs.

These internal disagreements have reportedly created disillusionment among some party members, giving rise to rumours of possible defections to alternative political platforms.

However, Badaru’s swift and unequivocal denial has been interpreted by observers as a move to calm tensions and reaffirm his commitment to the ruling party, potentially opening the door for reconciliation within the Jigawa APC.

In a statement personally signed by Badaru and released to journalists on Tuesday through his media aide, Mati Ali, the former minister firmly rejected the defection claims.

“I categorically state that the report is entirely false, unfounded, and a product of political mischief,” he said.

Badaru stressed that his loyalty to the APC remains intact, noting that he is one of the party’s founding members.

“My loyalty to the party remains absolute and unwavering,” he added.

He urged party members and the general public to disregard the rumours, reiterating that he has no plans to leave the APC.

“I remain a dedicated member of the party and have no intention whatsoever of leaving the APC,” the statement concluded.
