Atiku’s Aide Urges Trump to Sanction Corrupt Nigerian Politicians

Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has urged United States President Donald Trump to take decisive action against corrupt Nigerian politicians whose illicit wealth often finds safe haven abroad.

Speaking on The African Settings Exchange Show podcast, Ibe accused U.S. institutions of indirectly enabling corruption in Nigeria by allowing looted funds to flow into offshore accounts and American properties.

According to him, mere visa bans are insufficient, stressing that Nigerians expect Washington to go beyond rhetoric and back up its stance on corruption with concrete measures.

“Let me tell you what Nigerians expect from the United States government. Right now, there is frustration among Nigerians that the US and its institutions are enabling corruption in Nigeria,” Ibe said.

He emphasized Nigeria’s strategic importance, noting that “one out of every five black men is a Nigerian,” and called on Trump to demonstrate courage by cracking down on corrupt politicians who, he said, continue to shortchange the people.

“They need to work with Nigerians in ensuring that proceeds of corruption don’t end up offshore in the United States, in properties, money laundering and the rest of it. That is why I’m using this opportunity to call on President Donald Trump… to put his foot down and ensure that all of these people are brought to book,” he added.
