Mr. Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately sack and hand over the Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, for prosecution over alleged certificate forgery.
This follows reports that Nnaji presented forged degree and NYSC certificates purportedly from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) when he was appointed minister in 2023.
The controversy deepened after the UNN reportedly confirmed that the minister’s certificate was not genuine. Meanwhile, proceedings in a suit filed by Nnaji against the university and others were stalled on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The case, presided over by Justice Hauwa Yilwa, could not continue due to the failure of UNN’s legal representatives to file their responses.
Reacting to the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ibe criticized President Tinubu for retaining Nnaji in his cabinet despite the damning allegations.
He wrote, “Since the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has confirmed that Minister Uche Nnaji allegedly forged the institution’s certificate, which he presented officially for his ministerial appointment, one would have expected that President Bola Tinubu would have sacked him and released him for prosecution.”
