Abuja, Nigeria – Concerns have been raised over the transparency of information regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing state visit to Turkey.
Paul O. Ibe, Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, highlighted the issue in a post on his official Facebook page on Monday. Ibe noted that while the Presidency confirmed Tinubu’s departure from Abuja on Sunday, January 26, 2026, it failed to provide specifics on the duration of the trip or an expected return date.
According to Ibe, the official statement only indicated that the President would return “at the conclusion of the visit,” without further details. He described this as part of a growing trend where return dates for presidential travels are not clearly communicated, raising concerns about transparency and public accountability.
The visit, expected to span multiple days, aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Turkey. However, the Presidency has not yet released a detailed itinerary or timeline for the trip.
Observers say the lack of information could fuel speculation and calls for more openness in the conduct of state affairs.
