Atiku Warns of Looming Revolt as Hunger Worsens Under Tinubu’s Government

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised alarm over the deepening hunger and poverty ravaging Nigeria, warning that the situation, if left unchecked, could spark unrest similar to historic global revolutions.

In a statement released on Monday by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing to tackle the growing hardship facing millions of poor Nigerians.

“There are no manifest signs that this government is capable of addressing the grim issue of severe hunger staring the poor in the face,” the opposition coalition leader said.

Atiku recalled how widespread hunger and economic frustration had triggered revolutions in France, Russia, and across the Arab world, noting that Nigeria must learn from history.

He referenced the French Revolution, the 1917 Russian Revolution, and the Arab Spring — particularly the case of a young Tunisian man who set himself ablaze in protest against poverty, sparking waves of violent socio-political upheaval across the Middle East and North Africa.

Counselling the current administration to act decisively, Atiku said the prevailing “unacceptable situation” offers Nigeria a chance for sober reflection before it degenerates into a crisis.
