Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on residents of Abuja to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2026 Federal Capital Territory council elections, framing the polls as an opportunity for Nigerians to demand meaningful political change.

In a post shared on his social media platform, Atiku, accompanied by other African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders including former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, engaged voters on the significance of the elections.

“This election is very important. It will say a lot about how ready the managers of our elections are to deliver free, fair and credible polls,” Atiku stated, noting that the elections would also reflect citizens’ readiness to demand political change.

He urged Abuja residents to support ADC candidates, emphasizing their competence and character: “Our party has fielded candidates with competence, capacity and character to offer quality leadership across local councils in Abuja.”

Atiku also warned voters to resist intimidation at the polls, saying: “Voters have the responsibility to defy all forms of intimidation and make the right choice.”

Criticizing the APC-led government of President Bola Tinubu, Atiku accused the administration of failing to address key national challenges and described the FCT elections as the beginning of a process to vote the ruling party out.

“APC must be voted out in the coming elections, and we should start with the FCT elections,” he concluded.
