Atalanta have officially parted ways with head coach Ivan Juric after a disappointing start to the 2025–26 Serie A campaign, capped by a 3–0 home defeat to newly-promoted Sassuolo on Sunday.
Juric’s dismissal comes just 11 matches into the league season, with the Bergamo side languishing in 13th place and managing only two wins. His tenure began with optimism following the departure of long-serving manager Gian Piero Gasperini in the summer, but results quickly deteriorated.
Atalanta’s recent run — six consecutive draws followed by back-to-back defeats — left the club with only six points from their last eight games, prompting the board to take action.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Juric had been told that his matches against Marseille in the Champions League and Sassuolo in Serie A would determine his future. Despite securing a morale-boosting win over Marseille, tensions reportedly flared during a touchline exchange with forward Ademola Lookman, adding further strain to his position.
The heavy defeat to Sassuolo proved to be the final straw. In an official statement, Atalanta confirmed:
“Atalanta BC announces that Ivan Juric has been relieved of his position as head coach of the first team, along with his closest members of staff — Matteo Paro, Miguel Veloso, Pablo Barbero, Stjepan Ostojic, and Michele Orecchio. The club thanks Ivan Juric and his staff for their efforts and wishes them all the best for the future.”
Coincidentally, Juric’s sacking comes exactly one year after he was dismissed by AS Roma on December 10, 2024.
Reports in Italy suggest that Raffaele Palladino, formerly of Monza and Fiorentina, is the leading candidate to take over at the Gewiss Stadium as Atalanta look to revive their season.
