ASUU Strike Halts Exams at Joseph Tarka University as Lecturers Join Nationwide Action

ASUU-Asks-Members-To-Join-Nationwide-Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, has joined the ongoing nationwide warning strike declared by the union.

Confirming the development on Monday, the university’s ASUU Chairman, Dr. Terseer Abari, said the institution had fully complied with the national directive.

“We have complied with the national directive. So we are on strike as we speak,” he stated.

Dr. Abari noted that the industrial action had disrupted the university’s examination schedule. According to him, while most students had completed their exams, those still writing papers — especially in the Veterinary College — would have to suspend theirs until after the strike.

“A good number of our students are done with their exams except those in the Veterinary College who are left with one or two papers. But as we proceed on the strike, every other thing will cease. When we come back, they will round it off,” he explained.

He added that the university campus is now largely deserted, with only a few students working on their final-year projects remaining.

“Ninety-five per cent of our students have finished their exams. If you go to our campus, you will not see anybody except those doing their projects. So these ones will go home and come back after the strike,” he said.
