ASUU-FUOYE Shuts Down Campus, Embarks on Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) chapter, has declared an indefinite strike, citing non-payment of lecturers’ salaries.

The union’s decision was formally conveyed in a letter addressed to the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, on Thursday.

The letter, jointly signed by the branch Chairman, Dr. O. A. Fagbuagun, and Financial Secretary, Mr. Ngwu Benitho, stated that the industrial action would continue until all outstanding salaries were settled.

According to the branch leadership, the strike action is in strict compliance with the directive of the national body of ASUU.

“The National Executive Council of ASUU has resolved that where academic staff salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month, the branch concerned must suspend academic activities until payment is made,” the statement read.

“In line with this directive, ASUU-FUOYE has proceeded on strike. The action is total, comprehensive, and indefinite, and will only be suspended upon payment of salaries,” the union leaders declared.

The development has effectively brought academic activities in FUOYE to a halt, leaving students uncertain about the resumption of classes.
