The 2023 presidential candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Justice Peter Umeadi, has formally resigned from the party and announced his withdrawal from all forms of partisan politics in Nigeria.
In a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of APGA Ward 1, Nri, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mr. Onyekwelu Jideobi, Umeadi expressed gratitude to the party for giving him the platform to contest the 2023 presidential election.
“I respectfully write to resign from my membership of Nri Ward 1, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. By the same token, I withdraw from all partisan politics in Nigeria,” the letter partly read.
Justice Umeadi, a distinguished jurist and law academic, made history as the first justice to emerge as a presidential candidate of a major political party in Nigeria. His 2023 campaign was anchored on the ideals of the rule of law, separation of powers, due process, and a vision for social justice and equitable opportunity for all Nigerians.
The retired jurist joined APGA on March 20, 2019, at Nri Ward 1, and secured the party’s presidential ticket on June 1, 2022. His decision to step away from active politics marks the end of an era defined by his efforts to infuse intellectual depth and legal principles into Nigeria’s political landscape.
