APGA Gives Senator Abaribe 24 Hours to Clarify Alleged Defection to ADC

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, to clarify reports of his alleged affiliation with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that failure to respond could attract sanctions.

In a statement following a caucus meeting in Umuahia on Tuesday night, APGA accused the former Senate Minority Leader of abandoning the party and disrespecting its leadership after leveraging APGA’s platform to secure a fifth term in the Red Chamber.

The statement, signed by APGA’s Publicity Secretary, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, cited meetings held by Senator Abaribe on August 18 and September 23 at his event centre in Aba, where he allegedly promoted ADC instead of APGA. The party challenged him to confirm or deny the rumours of defection.

Responding swiftly, Abaribe’s media aide, Uchenna Awom, described the ultimatum as unfair and based on unverified claims. He insisted that the party, as APGA’s leader in Abia, already has established channels to reach the senator.

“Senator Abaribe is alive. The party has all the channels to access him. He doesn’t have any issues with them. They should write to him and hear directly from him,” Awom said.

Asked whether the senator had joined ADC, the aide added, “As an experienced politician, he knows how to go about it. Has he communicated to them that he has left APGA? They don’t just sit down and do arm-twisting to get words out from his mouth.”

APGA’s ultimatum has intensified speculation over the political future of one of Abia South’s most prominent lawmakers.
