APC Woos Kano Governor Abba Yusuf, Urges Defection from NNPP

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally invited Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and join the ruling party.

The invitation was extended on Tuesday by the state APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, who said he was speaking on behalf of the immediate past National Chairman of the party and former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Abbas described the move as part of a broader effort to promote unity, reconciliation, and collective development in Kano State.

According to him, the APC is willing to embrace Governor Yusuf in the interest of strengthening political cooperation for the progress of the state.

“The APC is ready to receive Governor Abba Yusuf with open arms so that, together, we can combine our strengths for the progress of the state,” Abbas said.

The development comes amid growing political conversations within the state. Recently, the Director-General of the Protocol Directorate of the Kano State Government House, Abdullahi Rogo, claimed that Kano citizens and voters had agreed that Governor Yusuf and the national leader of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, should defect to the APC.

However, the NNPP has pushed back against the idea. In a press briefing held on Monday, the party appealed to Governor Yusuf to remain with the NNPP, urging him not to defect to the APC.

The invitation has further fueled political speculation in Kano, a key battleground state, as attention shifts to the governor’s next move and its potential impact on the state’s political landscape.
