APC Warns Adeleke as Fresh Court Battle Looms Over Osun LG Tenure Crisis

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against what it described as persistent misinformation surrounding the ongoing legal dispute over the tenure of reinstated local government chairmen and councillors.

In a statement on Monday, signed by the party’s state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC said a crucial tenure determination suit — Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/147/2025 — is still pending before the Federal High Court. The case, which last came up in November, has been adjourned to February 2026.

According to the APC, the Adeleke administration has allegedly been releasing “all manners of lies” since suffering legal setbacks over the reinstatement of APC council officials. The party accused the state government and the PDP of failing to inform the public about the ongoing suit, which seeks judicial interpretation of the tenure of the reinstated officials.

The APC explained that the case also asks the court to determine whether the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has the authority to conduct another local government election while the reinstated chairmen and councillors still have a subsisting tenure.

The party faulted the state government’s description of the February 22, 2025 exercise as a legitimate local government election, insisting that Osun residents were beginning to understand the difference between a valid election and an “illegal declaration.”

The APC further accused state officials, including the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, of making statements aimed at inciting the public, adding that the claims were not consistent with the legal realities before the courts.

It warned that the continued distortion of facts by the governor and his aides could jeopardize peace in the state. The party stressed that the pending suit also seeks confirmation that the reinstated officials, having held their first sitting in February 2025, are entitled to a full three-year tenure.

Citing a recent incident in Otan-Aiyegbaju, Boluwaduro Local Government, after a Supreme Court judgment, the party urged security agencies to remain alert to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The APC appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children against being drawn into political violence and urged its members and supporters to remain calm as the legal process continues.
