The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it will, at the appropriate time, make its position known on the impeachment move against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the ongoing political crisis in the state.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, gave the assurance while reacting to concerns that the APC may be disengaged from developments in Rivers State.
The Rivers State House of Assembly had commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, citing allegations of misappropriation of funds and other misconduct. The move is widely seen as a fallout of the intense political struggle between the governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over control of the state’s political structure.
Speaking during an interview on TVC’s Beyond Headlines, Morka dismissed claims that the APC was indifferent to the crisis.
“The fact that I’m not willing to make a comment on your show does not mean that the APC is disengaged in Rivers State,” he said.
According to him, the party is deliberately cautious in its approach, stressing that internal and political processes must be allowed to run their course.
“We are a political party, and a responsible party at that. Our job is to govern our party maturely. When it’s time to share our positions or decisions on discussions, be rest assured that I will come here and share it boldly,” Morka stated.
He added that patience was necessary to ensure that all relevant processes are properly concluded before any official position is made public.
“But there are processes that must be enabled to do their job so that at the end of the day, we call it right,” he said.
