APC, Tinubu Accused of Forcing “Fait Accompli” on Nigerians – Ogbaru Lawmaker

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra State, Victor Ogene, has criticized President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of imposing a “fait accompli” on Nigerians.

Speaking on ARISE Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Ogene expressed concerns over the timing of the signing of the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) Bill.

“I will start by saying congratulations to the President and APC for forcing a fait accompli on the Nigerian people. I say this with all due sense of responsibility,” he said.

Ogene claimed that although many Nigerians were aware that the 2027 elections were approaching, the decision was deliberately delayed to limit public scrutiny and opposition.

“We knew that the 2027 elections were coming, and we waited until this last minute so that there will not be any agitation from civil society groups and the media,” he added.

The lawmaker argued that the signing of the bill effectively closed the door to further resistance, describing it as a troubling moment for Nigeria’s democracy.

“Having been signed, that closes the door to any further agitation. In the last few weeks and days, we have been forced to accept the fait accompli,” Ogene said.

He also highlighted the unfortunate timing of the development, which coincided with the beginning of the fasting period for both Christians and Muslims.

“On this solemn day that Nigerians on both sides of the religious divide, Christians and Muslims, began their fast, it is a sad day for democracy, and we will remember it as such,” Ogene concluded.

This marks a sharp critique of the APC-led administration as Nigerians prepare for the 2027 general elections.
