Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has cautioned that the party may lose the 2026 Osun governorship election if it fails to field a strong and experienced candidate.
Omisore issued the warning on Wednesday during consultations with party members in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas. He stressed that only a candidate who has previously held elective office can effectively challenge the incumbent administration in 2026.
He disclosed that key stakeholders across the state have been urging him to join the race, insisting he is capable of ending what they describe as the incumbent’s “ill-governance.”
“If we fail to give a viable aspirant the ticket, we will fail and lose,” Omisore said. “We must not leave the party ticket to the free will of an individual. The governorship of a state must reflect the collective decision of stakeholders.”
He also cautioned against selecting candidates based on personal relationships, adding: “You should not hire your friend for a job he can’t deliver. All of us in this race are brothers, but competence must come first.”
Omisore appealed to party members to support him during the APC primary scheduled for December 13, 2025.
“I urge all of us to come out on December 13, 2025, and show me love by choosing me as the party’s candidate for the 2026 governorship race,” he said.
The Consultation Coordinator, Ajibola Famurewa, expressed confidence in Omisore’s chances, noting the strong support received throughout their visits to local governments.
“Every local government we visited welcomed us with love and acceptance. I am confident Senator Omisore will emerge as the APC flag bearer on December 13, 2025,” Famurewa stated.
