The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has dismissed claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that the party plans to leverage federal influence to sway the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
In a statement on Sunday, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, described the allegations as baseless, suggesting they were aimed at preemptively justifying a potential defeat. The remarks came in response to comments made by Governor Adeleke at an Accord Party stakeholders’ meeting, where he accused the APC of planning to exploit federal authority during the polls.
“The opposition party has no intention of influencing the electoral process through unlawful means and believes it can win the election based on its growing support across the state,” Olabisi said. “Claims that the APC intends to rely on federal might are nothing more than the imagination of rumour mongers.”
The APC emphasized its focus on legitimate political mobilisation and strategic planning, noting that these efforts, rather than external influence, will shape the outcome of the election. The party highlighted recent defections of prominent figures, including Shuaib Oyedokun, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, Wole Oke, Dotun Babayemi, and Akin Ogunbiyi, as evidence of its strengthening position.
Olabisi also underscored the growing support for the party’s governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO. “Our candidate is a serious contender who is going into the August election to win convincingly, without resorting to fraudulent means,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke continues to caution against attempts to intimidate voters, urging that federal authority be used for governance and not electoral interference. Speaking to Accord Party leaders and ward officials across Osun’s 332 wards in Osogbo, he appealed to residents to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, stressing that “only the votes of the people will determine who governs the state.”
