APC Knocks Otti Over ‘Proxy Support’ for Tinubu, Predicts Slim Re-election Chances in Abia

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Alex Otti over what it described as indirect expressions of support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said the governor should openly declare his stance rather than allegedly using proxies to communicate political alignment.

In a statement issued on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the APC was reacting to remarks credited to Ginger Onwusibe, a member of the House of Representatives under the Labour Party, who reportedly stated that Governor Otti would mobilise support in Abia for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to the APC, such claims point to what it described as “desperate political survival tactics” within the governor’s camp.

“Rather than openly and boldly identifying with President Tinubu, he has chosen to deploy proxies to communicate supposed support,” the statement read.

The party further alleged that the governor’s recent political positioning was driven by concerns over his electoral prospects, claiming his chances of securing a second term remain below 30 percent.

Describing the development as “deceptive,” the APC maintained that it possesses the grassroots structure required to deliver overwhelming support for President Tinubu in Abia State.

The party also urged the president to disregard what it termed “misleading overtures,” insisting that any credible political backing in the state would come through its established network.
