The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has filed a formal petition against the Minister of State for Housing, Yusuf Atta, accusing him of making inflammatory statements capable of creating tension and division within the party.
In a strongly worded letter dated November 21, 2025, and signed by the state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, the party warned Atta to desist from commenting on internal party matters or risk disciplinary action, including possible expulsion.
The petition, which was copied to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, Kano APC leader Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the APC North-West Zonal Vice Chairman, expressed concern that the minister’s remarks “have the tendency to provoke misunderstandings and disunity among members.”
The party noted that Atta holds no role related to public relations within the APC, stressing that his comments could be misconstrued as official party positions. According to the letter, issues concerning party administration “are strictly within the purview of the APC leadership and its designated spokespersons.”
While acknowledging Atta’s right to support any aspirant, the APC reminded him that his position as a minister and member of the Federal Executive Council requires conduct that promotes unity rather than discord.
The letter also accused Atta of consistently making “uncomplimentary and derogatory” public statements, warning that continued misconduct would attract further sanctions.
The development comes as political tension heightens nationwide, with security crises—including the recent kidnapping of 215 pupils and 12 teachers in Niger State—further complicating the political landscape.
