APC Fires Back at David Mark, ADC Over ‘Directionless Government’ Claim

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised remarks attributed to former Senate President David Mark and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the launch of the party’s membership mobilisation, registration, and revalidation exercise in Umuahia.

At the event held on Saturday, the ADC National Chairman—represented by the party’s National Welfare Secretary, Nkem Ukandu—alleged that the APC-led Federal Government lacks direction and has abandoned Nigerians amid mounting economic hardship.

Responding in a statement, the Abia APC Caucus dismissed the claims as misleading and politically motivated.

“We strongly reject the narrative that the APC-led Federal Government lacks direction or has abandoned Nigerians to hardship,” the caucus stated.

According to the party, Nigeria is undergoing “complex but necessary reforms” under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at stabilising the economy, strengthening the naira, encouraging local production, and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The Abia APC further argued that political leaders who have held top positions in the country over the years should not attempt to dissociate themselves from longstanding structural challenges.

The caucus also addressed allegations suggesting that the party is plotting to undermine the electoral process. It reaffirmed its commitment to free, fair, and credible elections.

“Our party believes in healthy competition based on ideas and performance, not unfounded allegations,” the statement read. “Institutions responsible for elections and public finance operate independently within constitutional limits, and sweeping claims of manipulation without evidence only erode public trust.”

The exchange marks the latest in a series of political confrontations between the ruling party and opposition figures ahead of intensified political activities nationwide.
