The All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from the leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the recent derecognition of its top officials by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a consequence of internal missteps.
Speaking during an interview on News Central on Thursday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed claims that the ruling party played any role in the development. He maintained that the APC remains focused on its internal preparations rather than opposition affairs.
“We are only concerned about our level of preparation and the effort we are making. It is the opposition that is obsessed with what APC does,” Morka stated.
He emphasized that the crisis within the ADC was self-inflicted, following what he described as a disregard for the party’s constitutional provisions by its leadership.
According to him, the decision by INEC to remove David Mark as national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary of the ADC stemmed from internal irregularities, not external interference.
“The derecognition of that executive was utterly self-inflicted. APC did not orchestrate any takeover or hijack of the ADC. That was entirely their doing,” he said.
Morka further alleged that the affected leadership assumed control of the party in violation of established succession procedures outlined in the ADC constitution.
“When individuals disregard the rule of law and the constitutional framework of a party, there are bound to be consequences,” he added.
The APC spokesman concluded that those currently criticizing the ruling party were responsible for the situation they now face.
INEC had earlier updated its records, removing the names of Mark and Aregbesola from its official portal as recognized national officers of the ADC, signaling a significant development in the party’s ongoing internal dispute.
