The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is optimistic about reclaiming power in the 2027 general elections following a reconciliation of warring factions within the party.
State chairman, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, represented by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, disclosed this during a welcome-back ceremony for Ahmad Sharu Anka, a former commissioner and two-time local government chairman, who recently mended fences with the party leadership.
Danfulani admitted that the APC’s loss in the 2023 governorship race was largely due to internal divisions rather than the strength of the opposition. He stressed that with unity now restored, the party is ready to bounce back.
“We are now hopeful that our party, which was derailed by members who felt offended, has resolved its disagreements. The APC is united under the leadership of Senator Abdulaziz Yari and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle,” he said.
The chairman described Zamfara as an APC stronghold, noting that the collapse of factional structures had repositioned the party for victory.
Speaking at the event, Anka announced his defection from the camp loyal to House of Representatives member Aminu Sani Jaji to join forces with Yari and Matawalle. He pledged to work for party cohesion ahead of 2027.
“As a grassroots politician, I have chosen to struggle for the perfect unity of the APC to ensure the total recovery of its lost power come 2027. Zamfara has always been a stronghold of the APC, and we will maintain that position,” Anka declared.
