An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Jigawa State, Auwalu Gumel, has praised Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, insisting he served the country with sincerity and commitment during his time in office.
Gumel made the remark in a statement on Wednesday while reacting to Badaru’s recent resignation and the swift appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as his replacement.
He noted that although Badaru had his shortcomings, his dedication to tackling insecurity was beyond question.
“H.E. Badaru Abubakar, no doubt, despite his civilian background, did tremendously well in areas of security. The passion that he put into the job and his understanding of the dynamics of social strife prepared him for the task,” Gumel stated.
He accused “sponsored faceless groups” of attempting to discredit the former minister for political reasons but maintained that Badaru remained focused on his responsibilities throughout his tenure.
According to him, the former minister is still firmly committed to Nigeria’s peace and stability and continues to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Meanwhile, DAILY POST reports that General Christopher Musa was screened and confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday, paving the way for him to assume duties as the new Minister of Defence.
