APC Blasts Atiku Over Criticism of Tinubu’s Visit, Labels Remarks ‘Uninformed and Politically Motivated’

The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to the state, insisting he has no locus standi to speak on behalf of Plateau people.

In a statement released Monday in Jos by the party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, the APC dismissed Atiku’s remarks as politically motivated and “uninformed.”

Tinubu had over the weekend attended the funeral service of Mama Lydia at the Church of Christ in Nations headquarters in Jos, where he called for unity, peace, and tolerance, urging residents to shun religious and ethnic divisions.

But Atiku, in a Saturday statement, condemned the President’s visit as “a sad reflection of priorities and a mockery of leadership,” arguing that Tinubu should have instead visited victims of persistent killings and displacements across the region.

Responding, Plateau APC said Atiku’s attack ignored the roles of state governors in ensuring security and the support the President has already given to local security efforts.

The party accused the former vice president of attempting to make “political capital” out of tragedy.

“By all standards and definitions, Alhaji Atiku belongs to the class of the nation’s statesmen, in addition to the fact that he possesses the qualities of an infamous opposition leader in Nigeria’s political landscape. From the content of his statement and disposition, in the context of insurgency on the Plateau, it would not be out of place to say that Alhaji Atiku spoke in bad faith and also from an uninformed position,” the statement read.
