The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has described the forthcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a strategic platform to demonstrate party unity, discipline, and commitment to Nigeria’s progress.

Idris made the statement on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for the 2026 APC National Convention, where he serves as Co-Chairman.

He noted that the convention represents a significant milestone for the ruling party, offering an opportunity to strengthen internal democracy and reaffirm its vision of building a united and prosperous nation.

“The upcoming national convention provides the party with an opportunity to demonstrate unity, discipline, and a shared commitment to national progress,” he said.

Speaking virtually from the United Kingdom, the minister also highlighted ongoing reforms under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as critical steps toward repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and long-term development. He reiterated the APC’s commitment to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Idris emphasised the importance of effective communication in shaping public perception, noting that the success of major political events depends largely on how well their messages are conveyed.

According to him, the responsibilities of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee go beyond routine publicity, encompassing accurate information dissemination, transparency, and active media engagement throughout the convention.

He added that the committee will be responsible for content creation, media relations, planning and buying, coordination with other subcommittees, documentation, media monitoring, and performance evaluation across print and broadcast platforms.

The minister urged members of the subcommittee to approach their duties with professionalism and creativity, stressing the need to ensure wide and positive coverage of the convention.

“I encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty,” he said. “We must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity.”

Idris congratulated members on their appointment and expressed confidence in their ability to deliver on their mandate.

The 2026 APC National Convention is scheduled to hold from March 25 to March 28
