Anambra Govt to Build New Airport, Aerotropolis in Ndikelionwu

The Anambra State Government has unveiled plans to commence the construction of a new airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area, as part of an ambitious aerotropolis project designed to boost industrialization and attract investments.

Speaking during a tour of the proposed site, the Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport and Chairman of the newly constituted Airport and Aerotropolis Committee, Engr. Martins Emeka Nwafor, described the initiative as a “game changer” for the state’s economy.

He explained that the airport would be developed alongside an industrial park and commercial hub, creating a modern airport-driven city.

“This will be achieved by combining aviation infrastructure with surrounding commercial, residential and logistics facilities,” Nwafor said. “Having multiple airports in Anambra will open up new opportunities for industrialization and overall development.”

Leaders of the host community expressed gratitude to the government for locating the project in Ndikelionwu. The former President-General of Ndikelionwu Welfare Association, Hon. Fabian Nwosu, and the community’s Vice President, Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, pledged maximum support, security, and cooperation to ensure smooth execution.

The site inspection team included Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited; Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi, SSA to the Governor on Security; architect and founder of Sliding Towers, Mr. Chukwudi Ezenwa; as well as community chiefs and elders.

Geologists and geophysicists from the Solid Minerals Development Company also participated, carrying out geomapping of the location to determine its suitability.

If completed, the project is expected to create thousands of jobs, unlock untapped economic opportunities, and further position Anambra as a hub for aviation and industrial growth.
