Abuja, Nigeria – Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu has criticized Nigerians who recently protested against the Senate’s rejection of real-time electronic transmission of election results.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday, Adaramodu described the demonstrators as “always on the streets,” even for positive initiatives.
The protest, dubbed “Occupy National Assembly”, took place on Monday in Abuja and drew prominent figures, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi. Participants demanded the adoption of electronic transmission for election results to enhance transparency and credibility.
Reacting to the demonstration, Adaramodu said:
“Those people you saw on the street are always there, even for good things. If you give them a road, they will say it is not wide enough. If you give them electricity, they will say the light is not bright enough. It’s the same people on the street, and they will continue to be there.”
The Senate has consistently maintained its stance against the mandatory use of electronic transmission of election results, citing concerns over logistics and security.
