Ahmadinejad Reportedly Killed in Israeli Airstrike as Top Iranian Officials Named in Expanding Conflict

0

Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has reportedly been killed during Israeli airstrikes inside Iran, according to claims circulating in Israeli and Iranian media on Saturday.

Israeli outlet Ma’ariv, cited by the New York Post, reported that Ahmadinejad was under house arrest at the time of the strike and was killed in what was described as a targeted attack on his residence. The Israeli War Room account also referenced Iranian media reports in announcing his alleged death.

“Former president of Iran’s Islamist terror regime, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was eliminated, per Iranian media,” the account stated, adding that Ahmadinejad had been sanctioned by the United States in 2023 over alleged involvement in the wrongful detention of American citizens.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from Iranian authorities regarding Ahmadinejad’s death.

Senior Iranian Officials Reported Killed

In addition to Ahmadinejad, several high-ranking Iranian officials have been named in reports as casualties of Israeli military operations. Those listed include:

  • Aziz Nasirzadeh – Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics
  • Mohammad Shirazi – Chief of the Military Bureau of the Supreme Leader
  • Ali Shamkhani – Supreme Leader’s Adviser for Security Affairs and Secretary of the Defence Council
  • Hossein Jabal Amelian – Chairman of SPND
  • Mohammad Pakpour – Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)
  • Reza Mozafari-Nia – Former Chairman of SPND
  • Salah Asadi – Head of Intelligence, Khatem Alanbieh Command
  • Abdolrahim Mousavi – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces

Independent verification of these reported deaths remains limited, and Iranian state media has not publicly confirmed the full list at the time of publication.

The reported strikes mark a significant escalation in tensions between Israel and Iran, amid broader regional instability involving the United States and its allies. Analysts warn that confirmed losses at this level of Iran’s political and military leadership could have far-reaching geopolitical consequences.

Further updates are expected as more official information becomes available.
