Agbu Kefas Denies Bribery Claims, Vows to Deliver Taraba for Tinubu in 2027

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has dismissed allegations that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was influenced by monetary gain. Speaking to State House correspondents on Wednesday after his first meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Kefas said his decision was driven by personal conviction and the broader interests of Taraba State.

“My decision was based on what is best for Taraba State and its future. Nobody gave me money to defect to the APC,” he affirmed, describing his move as “a carefully considered step to improve cooperation and development outcomes.”

On the 2027 general elections, Kefas expressed confidence in delivering Taraba State to President Tinubu. “We have done all our mapping, our planning, and I’m on the ground. The people have me, and I’ve always told them I have no business being in government other than for them. Taraba is for him, and he’s going to get nothing less than 100 per cent,” the governor said.

Kefas attributed his optimism to ongoing grassroots projects and policies that have strengthened public trust in his administration. He also highlighted that his meeting with President Tinubu focused on critical issues affecting Taraba State, including security, agriculture, and social welfare.

“This is not the first time meeting with Mr President. But since my movement to the ruling party, I’ve not seen him. I decided to come and discuss strategic issues concerning the welfare of our people and support for Nigeria,” Kefas said, describing the engagement as productive and aimed at enhancing collaboration between Taraba State and the Federal Government.

The governor also called on residents to promote peace and unity, noting the concurrent observance of the Christian Lenten season and Muslim Ramadan as an opportunity for prayers and renewed commitment to national development.

Kefas, elected in 2023 under the PDP, initially planned to defect to the APC on November 19, 2025, but the move was eventually completed on January 31, 2026.
