Agbamuche Takes Over as Acting INEC Chairman as Mahmood Yakubu Steps Aside

Professor Mahmood Yakubu has handed over leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to May Agbamuche, who will serve as the Acting National Chairman.

Agbamuche, the oldest serving National Commissioner in the commission, assumes the role pending the appointment of a substantive chairman.

Yakubu announced the transition on Tuesday during an ongoing meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

He urged the commissioners and directors to give their full support to Agbamuche as she steers the affairs of the electoral body in the interim.
