Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has raised concerns over reported threats to peace and security in Ikirun, directing the Nigeria Police Force to immediately address alleged harassment and intimidation of community leaders in the town.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor expressed worry over reports involving the intimidation of kingmakers and other prominent figures in Ikirun, warning that such developments could threaten the prevailing peace in the community.
According to the statement, some leaders in Ikirun had sent a distress message alleging that unidentified security operatives had been harassing kingmakers since the early hours of Wednesday.
Governor Adeleke noted that the allegations, if left unchecked, could heighten tensions and destabilise public order in the area.
“I direct the state police command to protect kingmakers and stop the reported harassment of the leaders in the town. We must not jeopardise the prevailing peace in the town,” the governor was quoted as saying.
He further instructed the Commissioner of Police in the state to take swift action to investigate the situation and restore calm.
The governor also urged security agencies to ensure adequate protection for residents, the palace, and all stakeholders in Ikirun.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace and stability, Adeleke stressed that his government would continue to uphold law and order across the state while protecting the rights and safety of all citizens.
