Adeleke, NYSC Warn Corps Members: ‘Be Security Conscious, Responsible Online’ as 1,420 Sworn In at Osun Orientation Camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun State has officially sworn in 1,420 corps members for the 2025 Batch B Stream II orientation course at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede.

Declaring the three-week course open on Friday, the Osun NYSC State Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim, described the presence of the corps members as the start of a “memorable journey of service, patriotism, and nation-building.”

He noted that the orientation exercise was designed to instill discipline, resilience, civic responsibility, and leadership qualities in graduate youths, while preparing them for the challenges of national development.

“Your presence here signifies the beginning of a memorable journey of service, patriotism, and nation-building. It has been carefully structured to introduce you to the ideals of the Scheme, inculcate discipline, promote physical fitness, and prepare you for the task of service to our dear nation,” Agbor said.

Emphasizing that corps members’ security and welfare remained paramount to the NYSC, he revealed that the scheme was collaborating with security agencies and host communities to ensure their safety throughout the service year.

He, however, cautioned them against reckless behavior, stressing the need for responsible social media use.
“I implore you to always be security conscious and avoid unnecessary risks. The camp is a regimented environment, and discipline remains a core principle of the NYSC. Sharing unauthorized content could breach security, violate the privacy rights of your colleagues, and undermine the integrity of the orientation programme. Be ambassadors of the Scheme and your family both online and offline,” he advised.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Moshood Olagunju, congratulated the corps members, describing their mobilisation as a significant milestone in their lives as young graduates and future leaders of Nigeria.

Adeleke reaffirmed the NYSC as one of Nigeria’s strongest instruments of national unity, urging the corps members to embrace their role as ambassadors of peace and progress.

“The NYSC Scheme remains one of the most enduring legacies of our national history. For over five decades, it has served as a unifying platform, bringing together young Nigerians from different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds to live, train, and serve together,” he said.

Charging the corps members to make lasting impacts in their host communities, the governor encouraged them to contribute meaningfully in sectors such as education, healthcare, rural development, agriculture, and community service.

“Let this year not just be a year of service, but a year of discovery and impact,” he added.

Governor Adeleke also commended the NYSC for its efforts at repositioning the scheme and pledged his administration’s continuous support in Osun State.
