Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed strong confidence that divine intervention and the continued support of the people will secure his re-election in the forthcoming governorship poll.
The governor made the statement on Monday during a New Year interfaith prayer session held at the State Secretariat in Osogbo. The event was attended by labour leaders, religious figures and public servants from across the state.
Reflecting on his three years in office, Adeleke said his administration had overcome numerous challenges through faith, resilience and collective determination, adding that similar strength would see the government through the next election.
“Our God has remained our sustainer, defender and protector. From the very beginning, He has fought our battles for us. Those who rise against us are confronted by a higher power,” the governor said.
He described his administration as a clear example of what he called divine grace, noting that obstacles once considered insurmountable had been successfully tackled.
“We are living proof that God rules in the affairs of men. Time and again, we have overcome challenges and emerged victorious. As God remains the same yesterday, today and forever, we shall continue to prevail and remain undefeated,” Adeleke declared.
The governor highlighted what he described as people-focused achievements since assuming office, stressing that his administration had prioritised policies aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Osun residents.
“From my first day in office, we prioritised programmes that directly impact the lives of our people. Three years on, we have kept faith with Osun residents and honoured our promises,” he said.
Among the achievements listed were interventions for senior citizens, support for the poor and vulnerable, rehabilitation of roads and bridges, empowerment of artisans, and reforms in the education and healthcare sectors.
Adeleke also said his government was making steady progress in addressing inherited salary and pension arrears, despite criticism from political opponents.
“Under very difficult circumstances, we are addressing half-salary payments and pension backlogs which some claimed were impossible to resolve. We have ensured that Osun resources work for Osun people and created a more enabling environment for investors,” he added.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, reaffirmed organised labour’s support for the governor, declaring that workers would vote overwhelmingly for Adeleke in the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
Religious leaders at the event also offered prayers and goodwill messages. The Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasaun, and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Dr John Adeleke, commended the governor for his consistent public expression of faith and prayed for divine wisdom to guide him in addressing the state’s challenges and securing re-election.
