Former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has predicted internal cracks within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following its forthcoming national convention.
Baba-Ahmed made the assertion on Tuesday while speaking on Politics Today, a political programme aired on Channels Television and monitored by DAILY POST. He was reacting to developments within Nigeria’s opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the ADC is likely to experience defections once its presidential ticket is decided, insisting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will emerge as the party’s flagbearer.
“ADC will bleed after its convention because Vice President Atiku will get the ticket, and when he does, some people will walk out,” Baba-Ahmed said.
The ADC was adopted by major opposition figures in July 2025 as the platform for a united challenge against the ruling party in the 2027 polls.
The party currently boasts a lineup of prominent political heavyweights, including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Babachir Lawal, among others.
Its national leadership includes former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman, former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, and former Minister of Sports Bolaji Abdullahi as National Publicity Secretary.
Baba-Ahmed’s comments add to growing speculation about the stability of the opposition alliance as the battle for the ADC’s presidential ticket intensifies.
