The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, says the party was created out of necessity to restore direction and credibility to Nigeria’s political landscape.
Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, Abdullahi said the ADC emerged in response to deliberate efforts by the government to weaken opposition parties.
He recalled that while the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014/2015 was a product of political strategy, the ADC’s founding was driven by “political necessity.”
According to him, “The ADC itself is a product of the government’s destabilisation of all opposition political parties. What has brought about the ADC now is the government’s intention to destabilize other political parties.”
Abdullahi stressed that the party was not created merely to compete for power but to rebuild the country’s democratic culture.
“ADC is not just here for political power; ADC is here to reset politics and democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
He added that internal crises in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) forced figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to join the ADC, noting that some members of the Labour Party have also defected to the party.
