ADC Unveils ‘1ADC’ Movement as Obi, Atiku, Amaechi Align to Challenge Tinubu in 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a new political movement, 1ADC, aimed at uniting supporters of key opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party said leading presidential hopefuls — Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi — are working together with a shared objective of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential election.

The announcement was made during the unveiling of the 1ADC movement, an initiative designed to mobilise party members and supporters across different age groups, social backgrounds and political interests as the opposition begins early preparations for the 2027 race.

National Coordinator of the 1ADC Movement, Lauretta Onochie, said the platform was created to demonstrate that political groups within the party can unite behind a common purpose.

“We are here to inform the world, the state and our political leaders that we have come together to be united as one ADC,” she said.

Onochie explained that the movement would allow supporters of Obi, Atiku and Amaechi to collaborate as a team in confronting the APC during the 2027 elections.

“Because Nigerians are asking an important question as to whether political parties can come together and unite, today we are here to say it is possible and we are taking that lead,” she added.

She acknowledged that disagreements are natural in political organisations but stressed that the collective interest of the party must take priority over personal ambitions.

According to her, the ADC leadership plans to unite members after the party’s primaries, reconcile aggrieved factions and discourage anti-party activities.

“We will unite after primaries, we will heal the wounds and we will not encourage anti-party activities. We will reach the grassroots, the poor and the young. We will be a party for everyone — strong, disciplined and united,” she assured.

Former ADC National Chairman, Ralphs Nwosu, said the party’s adoption as a coalition platform was intended to give Nigerians an opportunity to reclaim the country’s political direction.

“We say we don’t want to continue complaining. It is not about who is the national chairman or national secretary. The leadership of the ADC has been deliberate. They don’t want to stand on anybody’s face; they want Nigerian citizens to take over the party,” Nwosu said.

He also praised the party’s current National Chairman, David Mark, describing him as a “military tactician” capable of steering the party through political challenges.

Nwosu further revealed that the ADC’s digital membership registration campaign had attracted significant interest nationwide, with millions of Nigerians reportedly signing up within a few months.

According to him, the party aims to position itself as a citizens’ platform rather than a party dominated solely by politicians, while building unity across the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
