The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for allegedly turning a blind eye to the certificate forgery scandal involving the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Nnaji.
Recent investigative reports claimed that the documents submitted by the Minister during his screening were falsified, alleging that he was never issued a degree by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as he claimed. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has also reportedly disowned the certificates presented by the Minister.
Reacting through a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said it was not surprised that President Tinubu has continued to retain Nnaji in his cabinet despite the damning allegations.
“The question on the lips of every Nigerian is simple: if the Minister is not honourable enough to resign, why is the Tinubu administration still keeping him in office?” the statement read in part.
The opposition party described the government’s silence as evidence of its alleged tolerance for corruption, saying it undermines the administration’s anti-corruption stance.
ADC called for Nnaji’s immediate suspension and an independent investigation into the matter, insisting that if found guilty, he should not only be dismissed but also prosecuted for forgery and perjury.
