ADC to Tinubu: Prepare to Hand Over in 2027, Not 2031

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has slammed the Presidency over its recent assertion that President Bola Tinubu has no plans to extend his tenure beyond 2031, describing the remarks as “presumptuous and patently undemocratic.”

In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, maintained that President Tinubu’s mandate ends in 2027 and urged him to prepare to hand over to a more competent leader.

The ADC expressed confidence that Nigerians would not support any attempt to prolong Tinubu’s stay in power “by a single day,” given the worsening socio-economic conditions across the country.

It lamented the collapse of the naira, rising inflation, and growing poverty under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, accusing the administration of pushing millions into hardship.

“Under his watch, national security has degenerated into a cruel joke. Terrorists, bandits, and criminals now operate with total impunity. Citizens are kidnapped in broad daylight, and rural communities have become warzones,” the party said.

The ADC further noted that insecurity had “metastasized into national trauma” while the government appeared to lack the will and capacity to halt it.

On the economy, the opposition party accused the Tinubu administration of presiding over “a free fall,” with food prices tripling in many parts of the country, businesses crumbling under heavy taxation, and the middle class steadily disappearing.

“Nigerians are now poorer, hungrier, and angrier than they were before Tinubu took office,” the statement added.
