ADC Slams Tinubu’s UN Security Council Bid Amid Rising Insecurity Across Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for seeking a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, calling the move “absurd” given the persistent insecurity plaguing Nigeria.

In a statement, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi argued that Nigeria cannot pursue expanded global responsibilities while failing to safeguard its citizens.

“The Tinubu administration’s request for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council is baffling, especially as bandits continue to slaughter Nigerians and seize control of parts of the country,” Abdullahi said.

The opposition party cited recent violent attacks in Zamfara and Katsina states, including an assault on worshippers in a mosque in Yandoto village, Zamfara, which left several people dead and others abducted.

According to ADC, at least 140 people have been killed in both states over the past two months, with Amnesty International reporting that armed groups have claimed over 10,000 lives nationwide as of May 2025.

“These are not just numbers; they were human beings, Nigerians who were promised renewed hope by this administration,” the party added.

The ADC also raised concerns over the activities of armed gangs in Zamfara, alleging that they extorted more than N56 million from farmers to allow them access to their farmlands.
