Benin City, Edo State – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has vowed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo South Senatorial District, promising to frustrate President Bola Tinubu’s bid for 2.5 million votes in the area ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the Edo South Senatorial Meeting where Sir Rowland Owie was endorsed as the local leader, ADC Senatorial Chairman Iyare Bernard said the party was committed to uniting the people of Edo South and building a strong political base.
“The essence of this meeting is for the people of Edo South to be united. We want to build the ADC in Edo State so we can defeat the ruling party. Here we have a governor who promised the president 2.5 million votes, but we will make it difficult for the APC to get even 50,000 votes in Edo South,” Bernard declared.
Sir Rowland Owie, a former Chief Whip of the Senate, expressed confidence in the ADC’s ability to provide effective leadership for Nigeria. “I have been made to lead the ADC in Edo South today, and by the grace of God and the will of the people, there won’t be a problem. ADC is ready and will ensure Nigeria is rescued. This is the party that can deliver what Nigeria needs,” he said.
Owie referenced the historical success of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in Bendel State (now Edo and Delta), highlighting achievements such as free education, healthcare, employment, rural development, and international scholarships. “If it could be done then, it can be done now, and by the grace of God, ADC will replicate those policies in Edo South and beyond,” he added.
The meeting brought together representatives from all seven local government areas in Edo South and attracted key party members including Nosa Ehima and Douglas Iyike Ekundayo Ogbonmwan.
With Edo South controlling over 50 percent of votes in the state, ADC’s declaration signals a major political contest ahead of the 2027 elections.
