ADC: Nigeria Cannot Be Rescued With Tinubu in Power — Bolaji Abdullahi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must be removed from office for Nigeria to overcome what it described as an unprecedented governance crisis.

Speaking on Friday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, argued that the country’s problems cannot be resolved under the current administration.

According to him, the agenda of the Tinubu-led government does not align with Nigeria’s national interest.

“There is no scenario where he remains in power and we are able to save this country,” Abdullahi said.

The former minister accused the administration of being dominated by individuals with what he described as a “bandit mentality,” claiming that such an attitude defines the government’s approach to governance.

“When people say you can smash it, grab it, and run with it, that is the language of banditry,” he stated.

Abdullahi also raised serious concerns about alleged manipulation within the legislative process, particularly in relation to tax-related laws. He described recent developments as unprecedented in Nigeria’s democratic history, alleging that the government forged legislation that had already been passed by the National Assembly.

“A government that can forge a duly passed law; what do you call that?” he asked.

On reports that the Federal Government paid $9 million to foreign lobbyists in the United States to improve Nigeria’s image ahead of engagements with American officials, including President Donald Trump, Abdullahi questioned the transparency of the deal.

He demanded clarity on how the contract was awarded and funded.

“How was this contract awarded? How was the money paid? Who paid the money? What budget line was it taken from? How was the money transferred out of Nigeria?” he queried.

Abdullahi described the expenditure as a clear case of misplaced priorities, arguing that investing the same amount in internal security would have been more beneficial than attempting to polish Nigeria’s image abroad.

“They don’t care whether Nigerians are still dying. They don’t care that people are still being killed. They just want to look good before Americans,” he said.

The ADC spokesperson further expressed concern over a medical memorandum of understanding (MoU) reportedly signed between Nigeria and the United States around December 19. He claimed the agreement grants the US significant control over the allocation of funds, despite Nigeria contributing a larger share.

“No Nigerians have seen the details of this MoU,” Abdullahi said, describing the terms as shocking and raising questions about national sovereignty and accountability.

He called for full disclosure of the agreement, stressing that Nigerians deserve to know the details of any arrangement that affects the country’s resources and independence.
