The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, of losing public confidence and resorting to vote buying as the November 8 governorship election approaches.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, alleged that the governor’s recent actions reflect “a new level of desperation wrapped in impunity.”
Abdullahi claimed that Governor Soludo’s administration has lost the trust of the people, suggesting that only a leader who no longer enjoys public support would resort to voter inducement.
He further described the alleged vote buying as a direct breach of Sections 121 and 127 of the Electoral Act, which prohibit offering money, gifts, or other benefits to influence voters.
“Governor Soludo’s conduct represents a dangerous disregard for democratic principles and the rule of law. It is the kind of behavior expected from someone who fears rejection at the polls,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC spokesperson called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the matter and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
“I hope INEC is not pretending not to see it,” he added, warning that silence from the commission could embolden further violations as the election draws closer.
Efforts to reach the Anambra State Government for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
