Adamu Atiku Abubakar, first son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State.
In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, addressed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Adamu stated that his decision followed “deep personal reflection and careful consideration.” The resignation takes immediate effect.
Describing his tenure as a privilege, he expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to contribute to the state’s infrastructural development. “It has been a rare honour and privilege to serve under your visionary leadership and to contribute, in my modest capacity, to the infrastructural growth and development of our dear state,” he wrote.
Adamu also extended his appreciation to the people of Adamawa State for their support during his time in office, acknowledging the confidence and trust they placed in him. He concluded with prayers for the governor, saying, “May Allah continue to guide and strengthen you in the service of our dear state.”
His resignation comes days after he was absent from a key political event on February 27, where 22 commissioners accompanied Governor Fintiri to announce their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Reports suggest that Adamu chose not to follow suit
