Abba Yusuf Reaffirms Loyalty to Kwankwaso, Says ‘No Rift Can Break the Kwankwasiyya Bond’

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dismissed speculations of any rift between him and his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, declaring that those attempting to sow discord between them will fail.

Speaking in Madobi on Tuesday during an event to mark Kwankwaso’s 69th birthday, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the former governor and restated his commitment to the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya movement that shaped his political journey.

“Those within and outside trying to create a quarrel between me and our leader, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will not succeed,” Yusuf said. “We will continue to follow the legacy and principles of the Kwankwasiyya movement because Kwankwaso is a God-given leader.”

The governor praised Kwankwaso’s visionary leadership and prayed for his long life and continued guidance, noting that his influence remains pivotal to the progress of both Kano State and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Yusuf’s remarks come amid recent claims of a factional push within the NNPP in Kano, allegedly championed by the former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Baffa Bichi, and the former Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Salisu Digol. The movement, known as “Abba Tsaya da Kafarka” (Abba Stand on Your Feet), was said to advocate greater autonomy for the governor’s administration—an agenda many believed could strain his relationship with Kwankwaso.

However, the governor’s latest declaration appears to put those rumours to rest, reinforcing the unity within the Kwankwasiyya family and his continued loyalty to the movement’s founder.

Governor Yusuf’s reaffirmation has been widely interpreted as a signal of enduring partnership and mutual respect between both leaders, ensuring that the political foundation that brought the NNPP to power in Kano remains intact.
