Abba Yusuf Breaks Silence on Alleged Planned Defection to APC

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has, for the first time, reacted to reports suggesting he is planning to defect from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor, who has been at the centre of intense political speculation in recent days, was seen in a viral video addressing a group of people, where he briefly commented on the controversy without directly confirming or denying the alleged defection.

“I have never commented on the discussions that follow the issues at stake, because I don’t believe in talking too much,” Yusuf said in the video.

Although the exact date and location of the remarks could not be independently verified by DAILY POST, the comments were widely interpreted as referring to the ongoing debate over his reported plan to move to the ruling APC, allegedly scheduled for January 12.

The governor noted that the issue had been exaggerated beyond its original scope. Quoting a popular Hausa saying popularised by singer Karamar Magana, he said, “What started small has been magnified — Karamar Magana Ta Zama Babba.”

Reinforcing his leadership style, Yusuf stressed that he prefers action over rhetoric.

“As everyone knows, I don’t believe in talking too much. I’m always an action man; the actions that will help my people, as seen by everyone, that is what I believe in — not too much talk,” he added.

Kano State has been politically charged in recent weeks following reports of the governor’s possible defection. While some stakeholders argue that aligning with the ruling party at the centre could benefit the state, others within the NNPP view the move as a betrayal of the mandate given to Yusuf by the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

As of now, Governor Yusuf has not made any formal announcement regarding a change of party, leaving the political atmosphere in Kano tense and uncertain.
