The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in securing maximum votes in the 2027 presidential election, following a commitment by Nigerians in the Diaspora to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The commitment was announced on Wednesday in Abuja during a briefing organised by the Presidential Campaign Council’s Directorate of Diaspora Mobilisation.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, highlighted the contributions of Nigerians living abroad to the country’s economic development, particularly through remittances exceeding $20 billion annually.
Dabiri-Erewa described Nigerians in the Diaspora as important stakeholders in national development, noting that they include professionals, entrepreneurs, students, innovators and community leaders who remain connected to the country.
She urged them to mobilise their families, relatives and communities at home to support Tinubu’s re-election bid by explaining the administration’s policies and economic reforms.
According to her, Nigerians abroad have a responsibility to communicate what they consider to be the positive changes resulting from the government’s policies and help build public understanding of the administration’s reform agenda.
She also said the Diaspora Mobilisation Directorate would work to counter misinformation about Nigeria and the Tinubu administration by providing credible information, fact-checks and updates on the country’s economic outlook and investment opportunities.
Dabiri-Erewa acknowledged that the removal of the petrol subsidy and other economic reforms had created difficulties for Nigerians but maintained that the administration was seeking to address longstanding structural challenges in the economy.
She added that the directorate would operate under the theme, “From Reforms to Prosperity,” with a five-point strategic plan designed to strengthen political mobilisation among Nigerians abroad.
The plan includes activating and harmonising APC Diaspora chapters across five continents, including in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Australia, Turkey, India and Kazakhstan.
The directorate also plans to engage Nigerians abroad who are not affiliated with political groups but are willing to support the administration.
Other priorities include voter education, campaign mobilisation and rapid responses to misinformation about the government and its policies.
Dabiri-Erewa further noted that the administration had incorporated the Diaspora into its foreign policy framework, describing Nigerians abroad as an important part of the country’s development strategy.
Participants at the briefing reportedly reaffirmed their support for the administration, arguing that the ongoing economic reforms could lay the foundation for long-term national prosperity.
The APC’s mobilisation efforts come as political parties and their supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.
