Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, has been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre following his arraignment before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi was arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The police, acting on behalf of the Federal Government, had filed the charges in November 2025, alleging that Adeyemi conspired with two other persons, identified as Femi and Anu, who are still at large, to forge presidential appointment letters, State House documents and other official correspondence linked to the purported council.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice subsequently took over the prosecution of the case.
Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to all eight counts before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, said the defendant had placed himself on trial by pleading not guilty.
Oyedepo further urged the court to remand Adeyemi in custody, citing his conduct prior to his arrest and arraignment.
However, defence counsel, Genesis Francis, informed the court that a bail application had been filed and served on the prosecution.
Justice Umar subsequently ordered that Adeyemi remain in custody and adjourned the matter until October 12, 2026, for trial and hearing of the bail application.
The charges allege that Adeyemi and his alleged accomplices forged a presidential appointment letter purportedly signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and issued under the authority of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Other allegations include the forgery of presidential letterhead, requests for collaboration and land requisition, a request for office space, staff account approval documents, and a conveyance approval relating to the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
One of the counts also accuses Adeyemi of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council between 2024 and 2025.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act and Section 179 of the Penal Code.
The case had earlier been adjourned for Adeyemi’s arraignment, but he failed to appear before the court, prompting Justice Umar to order his arrest. He was arrested less than 24 hours after the order.
