Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to be cautious of artificial intelligence-manipulated campaign messages and misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio also warned political actors against allowing electoral competition to degenerate into violence, stressing that no election victory is worth the life of any Nigerian.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, the Senate President called for intense but fair political competition, urging candidates and their supporters to prioritise national unity after the elections.
He said political differences should not be allowed to create divisions among communities, religious groups or different parts of the country.
“Let the competition be intense, let it be fair, and let every person involved remember that a country must remain united once the election is over,” Akpabio said.
According to him, political candidates should focus on presenting their ideas and responding to difficult questions, while citizens should be allowed to make their choices freely.
He also warned against violence, fear and the spread of false information, noting that such activities could undermine public trust in the electoral process.
“No electoral prize is worth taking a Nigerian life. No victory should be celebrated if it leaves the country hurt,” he said.
Akpabio subsequently urged Nigerians to watch out for AI-manipulated campaign materials as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
He reiterated that candidates should explain their policies and face scrutiny, while voters should be free to make informed choices.
