KADUNA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will begin across the country on October 9, 2026.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, made the announcement on Monday in Kaduna at the North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 General Election.
Amupitan said the recent voter registration exercise produced more than 10.7 million new registrations. He urged election officials to eliminate bottlenecks in PVC distribution at the Local Government Area level, warning that such delays could disenfranchise eligible citizens.
The INEC boss also disclosed that the commission is refining its technological systems ahead of the polls, including voter verification and result transmission processes. Its Result Management Systems are also being upgraded, including the recently introduced eEC8A.
On preparations for the election, Amupitan said INEC is adopting a “Zero-Failure” approach to logistics. The plan covers early deployment of materials, movement, security coordination and training of ad-hoc personnel.
